Protecting Yourself from Spoofing & Fraud

A Message to Our Great Meadow FCU Members

At Great Meadow Federal Credit Union, your financial security isn’t just important — it’s personal. We’ve proudly served our community for decades, and we want every member to feel safe and confident when managing their money.

Recently, we’ve seen an increase in criminals attempting to impersonate GMFCU through fake calls, texts, emails, and websites. This is known as spoofing, and while these scams are becoming more sophisticated, a few simple steps can keep you protected.

How to Spot Spoofing Quickly

Scammers try to make their communication look “official.” If you receive something that appears to be from GMFCU but it:

  • Asks for account numbers, passwords, verification codes, or a Social Security number
  • Claims there’s an urgent problem you must fix immediately
  • Includes unexpected links, attachments, or threats
  • Feels rushed, pressured, or “off” in any way

…it’s likely NOT us.

Important Reminder: GMFCU Will Never

  • Ask for your online banking password or full debit card PIN
  • Request your one-time verification codes
  • Threaten account closure or demand immediate action
  • Ask you to click links to “verify” your account

If someone asks for these things, stop immediately — it’s a scam.

How to Protect Yourself and Stay Confident

If something doesn’t feel right:

  • Don’t respond, don’t click, and don’t share.
  • Hang up right away if a call seems suspicious.
  • Reach out to us directly using the official numbers on our website or the back of your debit card.
  • Report anything unusual. The sooner we know, the faster we can protect you and other members.

Your instincts matter — if it feels wrong, trust yourself.

We’re in This Together

Cybercriminals are constantly finding new tricks, but so are we. GMFCU uses advanced security systems, ongoing monitoring, and member education to keep your accounts safe. But the strongest defense we have is you being informed and alert.

If you ever think you’ve been targeted or just want to double-check a message, please contact us immediately. You’re never bothering us — protecting our members is what we’re here for.

Thank you for staying vigilant and helping keep our community safe.
