Credit unions are not-for-profit cooperatives, owned by their members who save and borrow there. Serving on the Great Meadow Federal Credit Union Board of Directors, Supervisory Committee, or a sub-committee is a rewarding way to influence the Credit Union’s future. Help shape policies to drive our mission forward.

To be a credit union volunteer requires a desire to serve, a commitment of time, a willingness to learn, integrity, and the discipline to carry out specific duties. Expectations for a Credit Union volunteer include:

  • Belief in and desire to nurture the credit union philosophy of “people helping people.”
  • Readiness to attend and participate in meetings on a monthly or quarterly basis depending on your role.
  • Understanding of and/or willingness to learn about the Credit Union’s operations and movement.
  • Desire to be a team player to achieve the Credit Union’s success.
  • Act, at all times, in the best interest of the members and the Credit Union.

Supervisory Committee Responsibilities

  • Ensure effective internal controls and accurate financial reporting.
  • Safeguard members’ assets and prevent errors, conflicts of interest, and fraud.
  • Directing internal audit activities to ensure credit union financial records are prepared accurately.

Board of Directors Responsibilities

  • Oversee Credit Union policy and establish sound practices.
  • Set programs aligned with our goals.
  • Implement loan collection and charge-off policies.
  • Ensure comprehensive training and proper bonding for key roles.

Sub-Committee Responsibilities

  • Assist the Board and connect with the community.
  • Sub-committees could deal with community efforts, charitable donation work, credit, finance, or strategic areas.
  • This role does not have voting rights, but provides significant input during meetings.
